How to Use the PS5 DualSense Controller on a PC- Updated 2023

It’s never been easier to utilize the DualSense controller from the PlayStation 5 on a PC – you have to know how to do it! As a result, while some gamers prefer to use a mouse and keyboard (and it’s hard to blame them given the various advantages), the DualSense is among the best controllers available for a wide range of games and applications.

We chose the DualShock 4 for our list of the top PC controllers, but based on user input, we predict that the DualSense Wireless Controller will be included on that list soon. You get a little more usage from your gamepads when you use the DualSense controller on a PC, which is always a good thing.

There are various advantages to using a controller when playing some of the top PC games, including faster reflexes and more precise actions. Furthermore, there is no requirement for you to get up and personal with the monitor. If your PC supports Bluetooth and has a USB-C to USB-A converter, you can use the PS5 DualSense controller both wired and wirelessly with your PlayStation 5.

How to use the PS5 DualSense controller with Steam

When using Steam’s TV-friendly ‘Big Picture Mode,’ in addition to being the most popular store and game launcher on the Windows operating system, you will be able to use the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller on your PC while the application is running, which is incredibly convenient when using Steam’s most famous store and game launcher.

Installing the game requires you to load Steam and browse to the upper left-hand corner of the screen. Navigate to the Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings menu item in the Steam menu bar. You have the option of using either a wired or wireless connection to connect your DualSense (see how to communicate via Bluetooth below). Steam will recognize the generic controller and may prompt you to customize it as soon as you plug it in, depending on your settings. ‘Define Layout’ should be selected from the device’s context menu in this case.

After that, you may configure the buttons to do any purpose. However, the triggers (the R2 and L2 buttons) must be mapped as an analog input rather than a control for the touchpad to function correctly.

When you’ve completed customizing the device to your liking, save the file and give it a name (it’s probably best to call it DualSense for simplicity). Maintain the controller’s label as a PlayStation 4 controller since this will allow PlayStation button prompts to appear while playing authorized games with the device.

Go to the Controller Settings menu and check the boxes next to Generic Gamepad Configuration Support and PlayStation Configuration Support to activate them (if applicable). The relevant box should have a checkmark next to it after this is done.

To ensure that your DualSense PS5 controller is recognized by Steam, make sure that it is loaded with the Steam overlay. Otherwise, the controller will not be identified.

2. Connect the PS5 DualSense controller to your computer through the USB port.

A USB-C to USB-A converter is required if you wish to utilize the DualSense controller with your PC, as the DualSense controller has a USB type C connector rather than a micro USB port like the DualShock 4 does.

Connections to both the controller and your computer may be made with a single cable, and Windows should immediately detect the connection. If your computer is equipped with a dedicated USB-C port, you may also use a USB-C to USB-C contact to link the two devices.

3. Connect the DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5 to your PC through Bluetooth.

DualSense can communicate with your PC over Bluetooth if you choose to work without the need for cords. Verify whether your PC or laptop comes equipped with an in-built Bluetooth receiver; if not, there are a selection of inexpensive Bluetooth USB dongles available from various manufacturers.

The PS5 DualSense controller may be connected to a computer over Bluetooth by pressing and holding the central PS Button and the Create button for three seconds or until the lightbar in the controller’s center begins to flicker.

Following that, you’ll need to navigate to the Bluetooth settings on your computer. To open a new window in Windows 10, navigate to the bottom-right corner of your screen and click on the speech bubble symbol in the Taskbar, as seen below. If you do not have a Bluetooth device connected to your computer, you may use the Action Center to connect to one. Select “Bluetooth” and then “Wireless Controller” to begin using the device.
